We have an exciting opportunity for a Marketing and Communications Manager (Lead for Learning, Training and Research) to join our team.

Our mission is to enable everyone to explore genomic science and its impact on research, health and society. We connect researchers, health professionals and the wider public, creating opportunities and spaces to explore genomic science and its impact on people.

The Advanced Courses and Scientific Conferences (ACSC) team are a key part of Connecting Science- running over sixty learning and training events each year, aimed at an audience of research and healthcare professionals.

We are continuing to expand our UK and overseas activities, and effective marketing is crucial to increasing our audience and maintaining and expanding its international diversity; while sponsorship of individual events allows us to further subsidise attendance and increase accessibility.

As an experienced professional, you will have an understanding of the importance of these activities and experience in optimising and expanding them to maximise the benefits.

You will run the existing ACSC marketing strategies across print, online, email and social media platforms, as well as developing new and innovative strategies. You will work with our existing network of sponsors, while also delivering new strategies and contacts to increase sponsorship revenue. Working with the ACSC team and our scientific organisers, you will identify and develop marketing and sponsorship opportunities for individual courses and conferences. You will ensure that these activities occur within the context of the wider programme, ensuring the correct application of both visual identity and communication messages.

You will also support the Society and Ethics Research team with any marketing activities as required, and work closely with the Connecting Science Marketing and Communications Manager (Lead for Programme, Engagement and Conference Centre) to ensure consistency across the programme in terms of identity and messaging, and also on joint programme-wide projects.

You will be an excellent communicator with strong technical, negotiation and time-management skills; you will enjoy working in a scientific environment with a range of international partners, including colleagues, scientists and clinicians, marketing and communications staff, commercial sponsors, suppliers and partner organisations.

Essential skills:

  • Professional marketing qualification or equivalent experience
  • Experience in developing and delivering marketing strategy
  • Experience of working in a scientific or educational environment with multiple stakeholders
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience of digital marketing platforms, such as (email marketing applications, social media channels etc)
  • Working knowledge of graphic design packages such as Adobe Creative Cloud suite
  • Proven negotiation skills
  • Effective team worker
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills

Ideal skills:

  • Degree in a life sciences subject
  • Experience in developing and delivering sponsorship development strategy  to increase sponsorship and revenue generation
  • Experience of WordPress website content management systems
